HOW TO USE THIS TABLE:

Add up your energy use for one year, natural gas, electricity, district steam, district chilled water, propane, oil, etc. Convert all energy units to Btus, add them, then divide by your conditioned space square feet. Look for your type of business below to see how you rank.

Note: These numbers are an average of inefficient and efficient properties across the country, with around 5000 heating degree-days and 900 cooling degree days. If your results are greater or equal to these numbers you definitely have some room for efficiency improvements. If you are somewhat less that these values some room for improvement does still exist but likely not as significant as above. Many of the facilities or industries listed here are very energy intensive and weather has relatively little impact on energy consumption - major drivers are process.
